Description
Hjemme og ute — "at home and out in the world" — was the reading book Norwegian children learned from for decades. The series began in 1884 as Læsebog i Modersmaalet and from 1921 was edited by Mathilde Munch and Sven Svensen under this title. This cover is volume VI, third printing, published by Steenske Forlag in Oslo, and it was bought at Norlis Antikvariat in Oslo in October 2026.
The verse in the frame, "Løft ditt hode, du raske gutt!" — lift your head, you quick lad — is the opening line of a poem from Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson's 1860 novel En glad Gut, the Nobel laureate's story of a happy boy.
Inside: 30 sheets of Hahnemühle Expression — 300 g/m² (140 lb), cold press, 100% cotton, acid free, hand-torn deckle edge — hand-sewn and cased into the original boards. At 14 × 21 cm it is the largest page in the cotton line: nearly an A5 page for watercolour, and 60 pages to fill.

This cover comes from a second-hand book that was already damaged inside. Expect honest wear on the boards — faded cloth, bumped corners, marks from decades of handling. None of it affects how the notebook works, and all of it is the reason the cover still exists.
